I certainly could pick 5, but I'm leaving the last one up to you to choose! See below...
Hats can become a significant part of not only a costume, but of an entire film. I was thinking about this while searching through Netflix during NYC's recent snowstorm. So instead of watching a movie, I got thinking about my favorite films with memorable hats.
1. My Fair Lady
Probably one of the most quintessential costume movies, Audrey Hepburn and the whole cast is outfitted with grand threads and toppers. So many to choose from, but I still lean towards the Royal Ascot scene as my favorite.
I'm not consciously targeting Audrey Hepburn, but let's be honest -- she wore them well, and hats were often part of her costumes. I'd say the most pictured one is that gorgeous wide-brimmed hat, but my favorite has always been this perky one (and actually, the first hat I ever made was based on this!).
If you know me, you know that I'm fond of mid-century fashions, and Doris Day's films around that time always saw her in fun outfits. I just love this hat!
I managed to move from mid-century into something a little more modern (though I can't believe that it's been over 20 years since this movie was in theaters). Loads of great ladies' hats plus top hats for the gents.
5. YOUR Choice!
What would you choose as a favorite hat film -- feel free to choose more than one AND I'll even open this up to TV. Write your choice in the comments below and we'll see which flick wins!
